Jon Rosen: From Army Veteran to Farm Manager

For each Halderman employee, their path to Halderman is different, shaped by the experiences and values they gain along the way. For Jon Rosen, one of our Northeast Area Representatives his journey began with service in the United States Army and later grew into a passion for agriculture and helping others.

Jon served in the Army from August 1988 to September 1991 as part of an artillery unit. During that time, he was stationed in Europe and Asia, including West Germany during a major moment in history—the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. While there was uncertainty about what might happen next, Jon and his fellow soldiers had to stay ready and work together as a team.

“I think one of the biggest skills I walked away with was how to work as a team with others. I was stationed with soldiers from all over the United States,” said Rosen. “Most of us had very different backgrounds and many had different values, but we had the same job to do and worked to get that job done.”

In 1990, Jon’s unit was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. After preparing equipment and moving into the desert, his unit took part in the ground war in early 1991, traveling through Iraq and into Kuwait. After returning home later that year, Jon completed his military service.

When he returned home, Jon faced a new challenge. His family’s farm had struggled because of poor financial decisions. While his family worked hard in the fields, they needed stronger business management. Wanting to help, Jon attended Purdue University to obtain a degree in Agriculture Economics.

At Purdue, Jon learned how to connect farming with smart financial decisions. His goal was to help his family, but he soon realized he could expand his knowledge to others. He enjoyed working with people and building relationships between landowners and tenants.

“My decision to explore the possibility of working for the Halderman team came more from the desire to use what I learned at Purdue not only to help my father and the family farm but also as an opportunity to provide more for the family my wife and I had started,” said Rosen. “I had a great understanding of the farming side of the business and loved making connections between the landowners and their tenants. “

That path eventually led him to Halderman, where he uses his background and skills to support clients and farm operations. Today, Jon enjoys what he does and is focused on continuing to grow in his career.

Jon’s story shows how service, education, and family can come together to shape a meaningful career. To work with Jon or learn more about Halderman Companies, visit Halderman.com.
