Congress’s budget resolutions leave out President Obama’s direct payment provisions.

Friday, April 3rd, 2009 by Halderman

Much discussion in production ag lately has revolved around President Obama’s proposed budget provision that would deny direct payments (as part of the Direct and County-cyclical Progam) to any farmers with gross sales above $500,000.  The budget resolutions passed by both the House and the Senate this week (ending April 3, 2009) did not include these provisions.  Of course, the budget process is by no means complete.  Nevertheless it is encouraging to see that the safety net provided by the DCP program and intended by Congress in the 2008 Farm Bill should remain in place.
